Carlo Lio
The superstar with bases in Toronto and Barcelona gets our lips smacking…
Your perfect breakfast would be…
I grew up on grilled cheese sandwiches. My Grandmother used to make them so good when I was super young, then my mother perfected them by adding random things inside rather than just cheese. So this holds a special place in my heart.
The most unusual thing I have ever eaten…
I would have to say raw chicken sashimi. This was in Japan and apparently the only place you can get it. I was scared to say the least but “when in Rome” right?
The dish that reminds me of my childhood
My dad was the cook of the family – and a BOMB one at that! But the dish that reminds me of childhood the most I would have to say is his Veal Parmigiana. Once a week at least!
Who taught you to cook?
Nobody and that’s exactly why I can’t cook! LOL
Your favourite 2 restaurants in your home city of Toronto
Copa Cabana – (Brazilian Steakhouse) – make sure to have no plans after this meal, besides TV and bed
Holy Chucks Burgers – Google it. It’s silly burgers with a massive twist
5 other restaurants from around the world you love
– Xemei (Barcelona)
– Le Bremner (Montreal)
– Holy Smoke (London)
– Barque Smokehouse (Toronto)
– Cerveseria Catalana (Barcelona)
A DJ or musician that has surprised you with their cooking skills…what did they cook
DJ Sneak. The man is a magician behind a grill. In one sitting he cooked, wings, ribs, pork, and chicken. It was a heavenly lunch in Ibiza. Not to mention his ghetto sangria. It was bomb!
Your guilty pleasure food. You know you shouldn’t but you always do…
Would have to say veal sandwiches from this amazing spot called California Sandwiches. It’s like crack!
What is your signature dish?
Well seeing that I don’t really cook, I am pretty amazing at watching signature dishes get made. I’ve seen many…….!
If you could have a master-class with a celebrity chef, who’d you pick and why?
Gordon Ramsey. I can’t stop watching his shows, and I want him to yell at me.
Dead or alive – 3 famous people you would invite around for dinner…
Sylvester Stallone, Rob Dyrdek, Megan Fox…
A dish you have yet to master…
All of them! I’ve just mastered “the bowl of cereal” and “the Caesar salad”.
Your favourite pizza topping
Pepperoni
Your biggest ever food cock up
Bacon and eggs for sure! And the toast to go with it……..I KILLED IT!
A dish you just cannot stomach
Snails, escargot. My grandfather used to collect snails by the rail road track and cook em up. I thought it was the nastiest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve never ate a snail. Nor will I ever.
You get in from the club pissed, dive in the fridge and usually come out with…?
Honestly, everything in that fridge is a potential victim. I don’t discriminate. One time I’m pretty sure I put Nutella on a hamburger.
The most expensive meal you have ever had?
Wagyu Beef in Japan. But was also one of the best meals in my life.
The most disgusting thing you have ever eaten at a festival
Soggy Nachos. Never again.
Ibiza…
My favourite restaurants on the island…
Considering I’ve probably been there the most. I really love ZEBRA. But also obsessed with Cala d’hort eaterie El Carmen for the paella.
The best sunset spot for a cold drink…
I really like Kumharas. Spent a bunch of sunsets there last year. Super nice!!
A record that always reminds you of Ibiza
“Pharrell – Happy”. Because Vueling won’t stop f*****g playing it on the damn flight!! I even tweeted them to change it Didn’t work.
Your favourite Ibiza dish
Paella at Cala D’hort by far.
The perfect 24 hours in Ibiza would be…
Would have to say a relaxing day on the beach, followed by an amazing dinner and sunset. Ending off with a wild night at one of my favourite clubs. Then going for an amazing breakfast at Wild Beets…
…to eat their pancakes!
